I have Pronto TSU9400 remotes with firmware version 7.3.3 (the latest non-beta firmware released last July 2010). I also use RFX9600s. My RFX9600s use firmware version 1.4.7 (the latest non-beta firmware released last July 2010).

At this time, I do not plan on upgrading my Pronto TSU9400 to the November 2010 firmware (the version 7.4.22 beta). I also plan on sticking with PEP version 2.4.23 for now.

Occasionally, I get "Command failed" in my Pronto TSU9400, and I have to either keep retrying the command, or, if I power off and on my Pronto, the "Command failed" problem might go away for a while. I also just got an RFX9400 that I'm about to install in another room.

Some questions:

1. Should I upgrade my RFX9600 to firmware version 1.4.8 (the November 2010 beta version)?

Philips' web site says that "In this beta release various stability issues are now structuraly solved. Althoug the software is not fully tested it appears to be reliable."

What have folks' experience with the RFX9600 and RFX9400 been like with version 1.4.8?Any improvements or problems with version 1.4.8 as compared to version 1.4.7?

My assumption is that since 1.4.8 is mainly stability issues and not new enhancements, that it ought to be better, but wanted to hear from folks' actual experience.

2. Is it okay to not upgrade to the latest (beta) firmware for the TSU9400 but upgrade my RFX9600s and RFX9400 to version 1.4.8? Or can there be issues if I don't upgrade my TSU9400 but upgrade the RFX9600/RFX9400?

Thanks,

randman

Hi randman,

I've been on the latest firmwares for the last month, and have experienced no issues. I am using a TSU9800 with RFX9600 setup with IR and RS232.

Go for it. You can always downgrade should you need to, but I doubt you will need to.

Cheers, Lee

One of the causes of volume ramp issue has been identified and addressed in the Beta RFX firmware that was released at time of PEP3 release.

I upgraded my RFX9600 to the November 2011 Beta firmware (1.4.8), but left my TSU9400 with the July 2009 firmware. I also changed my RFX9600 to use DHCP instead of a static IP (but configured my router to assign the RFX9600 a specific IP address based on the RFX9600's MAC address). I decided to configure the RFX9600 to use DHCP (in PEP) based on another thread in which folks reported less incidents of "Command Failed" if the RFX9600 is configured to use DHCP instead of a static IP. So far, so good (no problems so far). No "Command failed" incidents yet, but I haven't used the Pronto long enough yet to declare 100% success.

Question - the RFX manual says that the firmware upload needs to be the ZIP file (as 1.4.7 is), but the Pronto download for 1.4.8 is a bin file.

Can that just be uploaded to the RFX the same as the ZIP, or is there some magic involved?

Yes it can. Just upload the bin file.

Thanks! I looked into it some more and it turns out the bin file is just a mis-named ZIP file.
